State aid is a rapidly evolving area of law, with governments implementing extensive public support schemes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukraine crisis, and the Green Deal. Achieving the Green Deal’s ambitious goals—such as the Fit for 55 initiative and economic sector transitions—will require significant public funding.
LawLex advises public authorities, private enterprises, and state-owned companies on all aspects of state aid regulations within the EU and in jurisdictions with similar subsidy control regimes, including the UK post-Brexit. We help businesses maximize state aid opportunities, engage effectively with authorities, and represent their interests in proceedings before the European Commission, national regulators, and courts at both EU and national levels.
For public authorities—including federal governments, regions, and municipalities—we provide guidance on structuring state aid programs, individual grants, capital injections, public loans, and other financial instruments. We have advised European governments on designing large-scale state aid schemes with multi-billion-euro budgets, supporting both systemic programs and individual cases such as rescue and restructuring aid.
We also assist private businesses in developing state aid strategies, particularly in Green Deal initiatives and resilience-building programs like the EU Chips Act and energy security measures. Our expertise extends to Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI), ensuring compliance with specific regulatory requirements.
With leading sector-specific knowledge, we provide state aid guidance across industries including agriculture, automotive, aviation, banking, energy, technology, media, communications (TMC), and transport. Additionally, we actively support clients in securing direct financial support from EU institutions and represent their interests in negotiations and legal proceedings before the European Commission and EU Courts.
