Sports Arbitration & Disputes

What does a sports lawyer do?

Do sports lawyers only represent athletes?

Can a sports lawyer review an athlete’s contract?

Yes. Independent legal advice can help an athlete understand remuneration, obligations, termination rights, image rights, disciplinary provisions, dispute-resolution clauses and other contractual risks before signing.

What is the difference between a sports lawyer and a sports agent?

A sports lawyer provides legal advice and legal representation. A sports agent generally provides career representation and transactional services. The precise regulatory position differs between sports. LawLex acts as legal adviser rather than presenting itself as a regulated sporting agent where separate agent regulation applies.

Can sports disputes go to CAS?

Some can. The Court of Arbitration for Sport deals with sports-related arbitration and appeals where an appropriate jurisdictional basis exists. CAS jurisdiction does not arise simply because a dispute concerns sport, so the applicable contract and sporting regulations should be considered first.

Can you advise on an international sports dispute?

Yes. We can advise on English law and international dispute-resolution matters within our areas of practice. Cross-border cases may involve governing law, jurisdiction, international federation rules, arbitration and enforcement.
